FOCUS New Patrol Vehicles I Ford Police Advisory Board withstand glancing blows. Te deflector shield is standard on all Sedan PI versions. Ready for the Road All Ford police vehicles go a mile down the road from the Chicago Assembly Plant to the Modification Center, a fully Ford-owned fa- cility. At the Mod Center, police-only items are installed: spare tires, trunk inserts, deflector shields, door tethers and vinyl wraps. Optional features include lighting packages, spot lamps and ballistic door panels. Tis is where select Regular Production Options (RPO) and Ve- hicle Special Order (VSO) items are added. Te term Dealer Special Order (DSO) has been changed to VSO. All the two-tone color schemes, and many are available, are vinyl wrap over paint. Wig-Wag Solutions Separate from the Mod Center, Ford offers "factory" upfitting services and products. Crown North America is a Quality Vehicle S The nylon web tether on the front doors of the PI Sedan and PI Utility has just been lengthened slightly. The front doors now reach their full 36 -inch width in the opening, the second "check" stop. More Power In Less Space LPC 40 Charger's Low Profile Design Occupies 50% Less Vertical Space It's compact profile fits under seats or hugs the wall in storage compartments, leaving more room for gear and equipment. Its optional slide-in mounting plate facilitates easy installation & removal in tight areas. The 40 amp smart circuitry provides high boost voltage, quickly replenishing batteries, then reverts to float voltage. The new waterproof indicator provides both digital and bar graph display of battery condition. Specify the LPC 40 for large charge capability when you are small on available space. TM TM Modifier (QVM) process-certified upfitter. Crown NA is an optional "ship-thru" allow- ing more choice and faster turn-around. Ford's NextGen Police Interceptors use high-tech projector-type headlamps that cannot be wig-wag flashed. Te solution is to add front-facing white LEDs, which can be flashed. Of course, LEDs may simply be bolted to the center of the grille or the push bumper. However, Ford has a better idea. Te headlight bezels on both the PI Sedan and PI Utility may be ordered in two ways. One is pre-dilled to accept forward LEDs and side-intersection LEDs. Or the vehicle can be ordered with these lights and the wiring already installed. Te forward-facing LED is also a highly specialized, proprietary light. Tese wig-wags were developed by Ford spe- cifically to be seen even though the nearby headlights are illuminated at night. Other upfitting solutions from Crown NA include full wiring harnesses, siren and con- trollers, push bumpers and prisoner partitions. Of course, Crown NA also installs center con- soles and external lightbars. t XXX LVTTNBVM DPN t TBMFT!LVTTNBVM DPN Circle Reader Service #17 or click on EInfo at www.pfmmag.com 38 Police Fleet Manager Jul-Aug 2012 38 Police Fleet Manager Jul-Aug 2012 Te current CA Title 13 spec for the siren output is met by a single 100-watt driver mounted between the front fascia and inner fender.
