the 2014 model year tests conducted by the Michigan State Police in September 2013. Big Screen Dodge teamed up with the Los Angeles Police Department to take the mobile ofce to the next level of safety, ergonomics and efciency. Cleverly nicknamed the Big Screen, the prototype Charger on display at the IACP in San Diego really does have a big screen. It has a 12.1inch diagonal measure screen, which is about the size of a full sheet of paper. Tis is in contrast to the largest current retail screen that measures 8.4-inch diagonal. It is mounted right in the center of the instrument panel. Tis is a project started in 2009 by the National Safety Agency in Australia and quickly picked up by the LAPD. In spite of its super-clean appearance and clutter-free upft, the Big Screen is not a computer. It is simply a massive display in portrait format. All of the computing power comes from the police departments own laptop in the trunk. Te same with all of the touch-button light, siren and radio controls. Watch for the article on how the LAPD did it in an upcoming issue of PFM. National Fleet Service More good news to come from the Dodge Police Advisory Board is the appointment of George Bomanski as the National Fleet Service Manager for government agencies. He is the key, the single point of contact, for any and all service issues involving the Charger Pursuit, RAM SSV and Durango SSV. Dont get angry or frustrated with your local Dodge dealer, who may or may not be completely up to speed on feet issues. Of course, go to the dealer frst. However, right before you drive the ailing police vehicle through the showrooms plate glass window, contact the National Fleet Service Manager. Bomanski can be reached via cell phone at 407-257-1532 or via e-mail at GMB5@chrylser.com. He will want the VIN of the vehicle, the name of the local dealership, a brief explanation of the problem, and what the local dealer has said or done. Once again, Dodge has an emergency vehicle down priority for service parts. Tey also have sneaky places to hide parts to which the dealers may not have access. Te lead time on no stock police parts? Tink two daysincluding delivery. Maintenance and Repair For 2013, the motor oil has been standardized for Dodge and RAM police-oriented vehicles. Te 3.6L Pentastar V6 and the 5.7L HEMI V8, regardless of sedan, SUV or truck, use the same 5W-20 motor oil. Te free-of-charge Dodge Technician Training is now in its third year. Te two-day or three-day class is held both at Chrysler training facilities and on-site at police and sherifs departments. PFM covered this training in a six-part series. Go to www.hendonpub.com, then Resources, and Article Archives. Tis training is a must for larger feets even if the facility is not a warranty repair station. In addition, online training is available for all agencies through the Chrysler Academy MasterTech subscription program formally known as FAST technician training.MasterTech includes system fundamentals and knowledge, maintenance, repair and diagnostics. Te training is for real, complete with pre-test and post-test. It gives experienced techs the opportunity to receive training credits on Chrysler LLC products. Go to their website or contact them at 888-321-4321. Post your comments on this story by visiting www.pfmmag.com q The Police Advisory Board was held in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Sheriff vehicle tests. The Charger was competitive in both the Under 350 hp (3.6L V6) and Over 350 hp (5.7L V8) categories. www.pfmmag.com 61
